Mormyrops anguilloides mainly can be found in areas where rivers flow into the lake. They are living there especially in shallow water above muddy bottoms. Lake Malawi is not the only place where they are living, they can be found spread over West- and Eastafrika as well. These fish can reach a total length of about 100 cm So, if you want to keep these animals you should have a really enormous tank, considering of the size they grow to. At night they are hunting in groups for small cichlids which they find sleeping in these environments. At this they are using electricity to localise their prey and for mutual communication. It's obvious that we are dealing here with a species which likes eating fish. |
